Cisco released field notices this week detailing what has apparently become a persistent issue: stopped working Ethernet connections due to a connected Webex gadget being moved too much by pulling on its Ethernet cable.The product involved is the Cisco Webex Space Navigator, a little touchscreen gadget that integrates on-screen, controls, sensing units and a power-over-Ethernet port utilized as a controller for Webex conferencing gadgets and scheduling conference spaces.The problem
, as the field notice explains, is that”the Ethernet port might fail when the Cisco Room Navigator is pulled across the table by the Ethernet cable television often over a duration of a number of months.”
The outcome is mistake messages such as “Waiting on network connection: The device did not receive an IP address. Please examine your network settings.” Or a spinning “Connecting to room gadget.”
The problem was so bad Cisco really redesigned the port and the Space Navigator’s foot stand.
“In order to improve the Ethernet cable television relief, Cisco has launched a brand-new foot stand. Customers are motivated to change their original foot stand with this new enhanced cable television relief version,” Cisco wrote. “The hole for the Ethernet cable has been moved a little towards the middle of the stand. If you have the new redesigned foot stand variation, no additional action is required. If you have the original version, where the hole is all the way to the edge of the stand, then Cisco motivates you to replace it with the brand-new redesigned foot stand version.”
In order to get a replacement foot stand a particular form, found here at the bottom of the notice, should be filled out for each different “Ship to Address,” Cisco stated. The Upgrade Order Reference Number ought to be distinct for each type, Cisco wrote.In a second field notification Cisco noted that if the Ethernet port really breaks or pops out of the gadget, consumers will have to change the whole gadget.
