HP Business this week presented what it calls “the future of storage,” an array of new software and hardware supported and sold through its GreenLake service that rents hardware on a consumption basis.HPE’s brand-new Alletra Storage MP platforms are attached to an NVMe data material, providing file or block storage using a controller that can be configured for either performance or capability, HPE stated. It breaks down into two service categories: HPE GreenLake for Block Storage, which HPE promises scale-out block storage with a 100 %data-availability guarantee, and HPE GreenLake for File Storage, which HPE claims will use numerous gigabytes per second of throughput.” So we’re constructing the future of storage,”stated Patrick Osborne, senior vice president and basic supervisor of Cloud and Data Infrastructure Platforms at HPE.”We’re giving market the next generation of hybrid-cloud information services designed particularly for consumers that are taking that data-first modernization journey. They wish to keep, manage, and protect information for all work, anywhere their information lives, on this one unified platform.”HPE GreenLake for File Storage is created for NFS cloud-native applications and uses an AI-based scale-out storage-oriented OS from Vast Data that is designed to supply faster application performance.HPE GreenLake for Block Storage provides what HPE calls “first-in-class”block storage in a consumption design that provides 66%much better rate efficiency than prior offerings. With the disaggregated architecture of Alletra Storage MP, more drives can be added to provide more capability without manual provisioning.The HPE Alletra Storage MP architecture is managed by Cloud Control, a data-management control panel that can be accessed either via a console or a remote gadget like a tablet.”From a user viewpoint, the majority of our clients are moving to a cloud functional design,” stated Omer Asad, senior vice president and basic manager of the HPE Data Infrastructure and SaaS Platforms organization.” The HPE GreenLake platform provides a very, really basic pane of glass to handle throughout their architecture.”New backup and recovery functionality HPE is also offering integrated hybrid-cloud data security with a new HPE GreenLake for Catastrophe Recovery service and HPE GreenLake for Backup and Healing. , stated Osborne. HPE is broadening its GreenLake Backup and Healing service, presented last fall, to use cloud-native backup capabilities as well as disaster healing. The SaaS-based catastrophe recovery component originates from Zerto, a company HPE acquired two years ago.HPE said its disaster-recovery platform immediately discovers information sources and locations and configures itself based on the availability attributes of the environment.In addition, HPE is broadening its VMware backup abilities by including SQL backups to the same environment.
